چکیده
Abstract The Surface Resistive Plate Counter (sRPC) is a novel RPC based on surface resistivity electrodes, completely different concept with respect to traditional RPCs that use electrodes characterised by volume resistivity. of the sRPC exploit well-established industrial Diamond-Like-Carbon (DLC) sputtering technology thin (50 μm) polyimide foils, already introduced in manufacturing resistive MPGDs such as μ-RWELL and MicroMegas, allows realise large area (up 2 × 0.5 m ) spanning over several orders magnitude (0.01 ÷ 10 GΩ/□). Two detector layout has been developed: baseline DLC connected HV single dot connection outside active high rate screen printing conductive grid onto film, which density current evacuation scheme first for μ-RWELL. Besides HEP experiments timing this new could be exploited thermal neutron device homeland security applications (e.g. Radioactive Portal Monitors ports airports), replacing one or both plates coated ∼3 μm thick B 4 C layer, thus obtaining converters inside detector. Results obtained irradiating detectors at calibrated 241 Am-B ENEA-Frascati HOTNES facility will discussed.

متن کاملResistive Plate Chambers in ATLAS
The ATLAS first level muon trigger is based, in the rapidity region ( v ( 5 1.05, on fast and finely segmented gaseous detectors, Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) . A prototype of a small scale RPC trigger tower has been assembled and tested. We present results on efficiency, time resolution, cluster size and collected charge. The detectors, filled with a non-flammable and environment-safe gas m...
متن کاملAn Ion Beam Tracking System based on a Parallel Plate Avalanche Counter
A pair of twin position-sensitive parallel plate avalanche counters have been developed at the Australian National University as a tracking system to aid in the further rejection of unwanted beam particles from a 6.5 T super conducting solenoid separator named SOLEROO. Their function is to track and identify each beam particle passing through the detectors on an event-by-event basis. In-beam st...
متن کاملThe dynamic behaviour of Resistive Plate Chambers
In this paper the first attempt to extend the usual ‘‘static’’ simulation of Resistive Plate Chambers to the case when the rate of incident particles is not negligible is described. This is done by coupling a simulation of the process of electrode discharging and charging up, together with a simulation of the avalanche processes taking place in the gas. The model accounts for many of the observ...
متن کاملAn extensive aging study of bakelite Resistive Plate Chambers
We present recent results of an extensive aging test, performed at the CERN Gamma Irradiation Facility, on two bakelite Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC) detectors. With a method based on a model describing the behavior of an RPC exposed to a large particle flux, we have periodically measured the electrode resistivity r of the two detectors over 3 years. We observed a large increase of r with time...
